Lumpia Competition

Attention all lumpia aficionados! Show how you roll in the ONLY lumpia-making contest in Central Texas. This competition is open to anyone!

Reasons to enter

  1. Honor - You have been raving about your grandma’s Lumpiang Shanghai recipe for years? It’s time to share your family’s creation with others.

  2. Personal Development - Competition is a great way to enhance your cooking skills, build confidence and promote creativity

  3. Help a Charitable Cause - ALL of the proceeds go to the Philippine American Chamber of Commerce - Central Texas Region Humanitarian Projects

  4. Filipino Food Movement - Your entry will be promoted on our social media channels to bring awareness to Filipino cuisine.

  5. Try Something New - Never made lumpia before? No problem! There are a lot of YouTube videos and Amazon cookbooks to guide you. REMEMBER - you don’t have to be Filipino to enter!

  6. Win - Bragging rights are forever, oh...not to mention CASH prizes!

Prizes:

1st place - $250 + trophy

2nd place - $150 + trophy

3rd place - $75 + trophy

Preparing for the contest

  1. Advance registration is required. Click here to register.

  2. There will be a $20 registration fee for each entry. Registration is non-refundable and non-transferable. The entry fee will include one (1) 2-day pass to the event. You can also purchase additional event tickets for family members at 20% off.

  3. One week before the event, you will be assigned your turn-in time.

Register

Preparing your Lumpia entry

  1. You will be cooking your food off-site, but we will provide an air fryer to warm up your lumpia.

  2. Each entry must have at least 6 6-inch pieces or 12 3-inch pieces of lumpia. You can always include more.

  3. You must turn in your entry in a disposable container. You can use a disposable 9x13 aluminum pan. You will not get this pan back.

Turning in your Lumpia entry

  1. During the day of the competition, please turn in your entry NO MORE THAN 5 minutes BEFORE or AFTER turn-in time on August 11, 2024 at the Schertz Civic Center - 1400 Schertz Parkway, Schertz TX 78154. Your turn in time will be on August 11, 2024, sometime from 2:30 pm-3:30 pm.

  2. Please follow the signs pointing to Competitor Registration

  3. We will then assign a ticket number to your entry and it will be taken to the judges for tasting.

  4. We would love to take a picture of you and your entry for social media, but this is optional and you can decline.

Judging

  1. All lumpia entries will be blind-judged by a selected panel

  2. Judging will be based on 3 criteria

    • Taste - 50%

    • Appearance- 25%

    • Originality - 25%

Contest results and coverage

  1. Winners will be announced by calling out the winning ticket numbers during the Awards Ceremony, which is scheduled for 4 pm on Sunday, August 11, 2024.

  2. Pictures will be published in real-time on Instagram and Facebook.

  3. Final results will be published on Monday, August 12, 2024.
