Ube Dessert Competition

Attention all home bakers! Enter your interpretation of the best use of ube in a dessert. This competition is open to anyone. Complete contest rules are shown below.

Reasons to enter

  1. Honor - You have been raving about your mama’s ube recipe for years. It’s time to share your family’s creation with others.

  2. Personal development - Competition is a great way to enhance your baking skills, build confidence and promote creativity

  3. Help a charitable cause - The Ube Dessert competition is part of the Adobo Throwdown Cooking Competition and Food Expo, with all of the proceeds going to the Philippine American Chamber of Commerce - Central Texas Region Humanitarian Projects

  4. Help promote Filipino cuisine - Your entry will be promoted heavily on all of our social media channels to bring awareness of Filipino cuisine to others

  5. Try something new - Never made ube before? No problem! There are a lot of YouTube videos and Amazon cookbooks to guide you. And remember - you don’t have to be Filipino to enter!

Preparing for the contest

  1. Advance registration is required. Click here to register.

  2. Each entry will cost a $20 registration fee. Registration is non-refundable and non-transferable. The entry fee will include one (1) 2-day pass to the event. You can also purchase additional event tickets for family members at 20% off.

  3. Two weeks before the event, you will be assigned your turn-in time.

Preparing your Ube dessert entry

  1. You will be preparing your dessert off-site.

  2. Each entry must have enough for 12 (twelve) 3-ounce servings. You are more than welcome to include more.

  3. You must turn in your entry in a disposable cake container. You will not get the container back.

Turning in your Ube dessert entry

  1. During the day of the competition, please turn in your entry no more than 5 minutes before or 5 minutes after turn-in time on August 10, 2024, at the Schertz Civic Center - 1400 Schertz Parkway, Schertz TX 78154. Your turn-in time will be on August 10, 2024, sometime from 2:30 pm-3:30 pm.

  2. Please follow the signs pointing to Competitor Registration

  3. The Competitor Registration will check you in.

  4. We will then attach a ticket number to your entry and it will be taken to the judges for tasting.

  5. Winners will be announced during the Awards Ceremony, which is scheduled for 5 pm on Saturday August 10, 2024

Judging

  1. All dessert entries will be blind-judged by a selected panel

  2. Dessert judging will be based on 3 criteria

    • Taste - 50%

    • Appearance- 25%

    • Originality - 25%

Contest results and coverage

  1. Winners will be announced by calling out the winning ticket numbers during the Awards Ceremony, which is scheduled for 5 pm on Saturday, August 10, 2024.

  2. Pictures will be published in real-time on Instagram and Facebook.

  3. Final results will be published on Sunday, August 11, 2024.
